INTRSCT - http://www.intrsct.org INTRSCT supports under-resourced Chicago youth by connecting them to young adults who are passionate about service. Although already offering a number of programs, INTRSCT is seeking to expand sports programming. The Sports Shed encouraged the organization to reach this goal by donating volleyball nets, jerseys, and balls. Dr. Earl J. Lennard High School - http://lennard.mysdhc.org In April of 2012, The Sports Shed collaborated with Steve Kovac, a retired Mundelein resident who generously assists in the coaching of the Dr. Leonard High School baseball team located in Ruskin, FL. This is an under-resourced area where many of the players can not even afford mitts and cleats for themselves. The Sports Shed donated over 500 items, including cleats, mitts, bats, helmets, and baseballs which enabled a greater number of the 75-80 student athletes to participate and excel now that they have quality equipment. Beyond the Ball - http://www.beyondtheball.org/ Beyond the Ball seeks to transform violent, hopeless neighborhoods into thriving, active communities where kids can be kids. In support of the organization’s new construction of a huge turf soccer field and 3 basketball courts located at 31st and S. Lawndale in Chicago, The Sports Shed donated basketballs, soccer balls, jerseys, nets, and other equipment! CPS Trojans Elementary Football Program - http://leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=nashtrojans CPS Trojans Elementary Football Program encourages young students in Chicago to get involved in sports through a fun and encouraging football league. The Sports Shed provided footballs and cleats for some of the kids who want to play for these under-resourced teams. By the Hand Club for Kids - http://www.bythehand.org By the Hand provides holistic after-school programming to at-risk youth at several locations on the West and South sides of Chicago. The Sports Shed’s donation of basketballs, footballs, jerseys, and other useful equipment will enable By the Hand to offer additional fitness and sports programming. Iglesia Bautista Emanuel de Waukegan Through a relationship with The Chapel in Libertyville, The Sports Shed was introduced to Iglesia Bautista Emanuel. Pastor Jessi reaches out to families and kids in the community to provide food, clothing, and for-kids programs, including sports. Thanks to The Sports Shed’s donation, over a hundred youth in the area come to the church at least three times a week to play soccer, basketball, and volleyball! This is in an area of Waukegan where the majority of families lack the resources to have their own sports equipment or to pay for their kids to play on organized team sports. Near West Community Development Corporation -http://www.nearwestsidecdc.org/index.html Near West CDC serves the community of West Haven through a variety of programs, many of which are geared toward supporting balanced student-athletes. The Sports Shed has donated over $8,000 in cleats, mitts, shorts, and jerseys. The jerseys were numbered and customized for the Safe Summer Basketball League, which keeps kids off the streets, away from drugs and violence, during the free summer months. Maristella/Adopt-A-Family - http://www.maristella.org The Sports Shed partnered with Vernon Hills High School and Maristella to help provide families with helmets, skateboards, rollerblades, soccer balls, footballs, and much more for the 2011 holiday season! H.E.D.A.C. - http://www.hedac.org/ H.E.D.A.C., which stands for Honduras Educational Development Assistance Corp., is a 501(c)(3) organization. They strive to help families break the cycle of poverty through education in Honduras. The Sports Shed has provided them with baseballs, bats, baseball cleats, soccer balls, soccer cleats, gym shoes and much more! Morton School of Excellence - http://www.cps.edu/Schools/Pages/school.aspx?id=6800 Morton School of Excellence is a small elementary school located on Chicago's West Side. They provide an environment where their students are both supported and challenged academically and personally. The Sports Shed has delivered volleyballs, basketballs, baseball cleats, equipment bags, footballs and jerseys. Holy Trinity - http://www.holytrinity-hs.org/ The ultimate goal of Holy Trinity is the realized potential, self-respect, self-respect, and self-reliance of its students as people of God and responsible citizens. Holy Trinity High School educates students from the culturally diverse neighborhoods of Chicago. The Sports Shed has provided them with basketballs, soccer balls, equipment bags, indoor hockey sticks and workout equipment! Dodge Renaissance Academy - http://www.dodgeacademy.org/ Dodge Renaissance Academy is an elementary school located on the west side of Chicago. The Sports Shed has partnered with them to help provide students with basketballs, practice jerseys, baseballs, baseball mitts and bats. 1WORLD Sports - http://www.1worldsports.org/ The Sports Shed partnered with 1WORLD Sports and the Chicago Cubs for an Event to Inspire kids, who will receive baseball training at Humboldt Park on July 19th! The middle-school aged kids who will attend are from the Chicago Housing Authority and the Humboldt Park District. This event will provide them with baseball skills, as well as life lessons and inspiration. The Sports Shed needs baseball and softball mitts in great condition to give to the kids at the event. We are donating up to 100 new baseballs, as well as softballs and baseball mitts. Let us know if you would like to make a donation or drop off your mitts in a collection bin near you. Zion Alternative Program (ZAP) - http://www.zbths.org/16531075972550/site/default.asp ZAP operates to provide quality alternative education to the Zion Benton High School students who need assistance in earning their high school diploma. The Sports Shed is providing sports equipment to their physical education program, as well as to individual students who would like the opportunity to participate in competitive athletics. Many of these students have limited access or resources for these items. Dyett High School - http://schools.cuip.net/dyett/ The Sports Shed is partnering with Dyett High School in providing their athletic programs with much needed sports equipment. It was brought to our attention that their football season might be canceled due to shortage of equipment. Statistics show that kids who are involved in sports while in high school are more likely to experience academic success and graduate from high school. The Sports Shed needs your help to make this happen! We have already donated mouth guards, footballs and cleats, and we are in the process of providing helmets and many other items needed to outfit the team. IMPACT Ministries - http://www.alexmourer.com/impact/index.html IMPACT Ministries is a youth development program in Evansville, Indiana. The organization runs a summer camp, as well as sports and mentoring programs. The Sports Shed has provided over a hundred items, including jerseys, dumbbells, and a recent donation of weightlifting gloves. Chicago HOPES - http://www.chicagohopes.org/ Chicago HOPES is a volunteer-run program that tutors students living in homeless shelters. The Sports Shed has partnered with them to donated a wide variety of sports equipment to six of their eight shelters, including full-size basketball hoop systems to three of the locations. These will be used not only by the kids in the shelter, but also several kids from the surrounding neighborhoods, which are extremely under-resourced.
Cabrini Connections - http://www.cabriniconnections.net Cabrini Connections is an organization that provides help to kids in the Chicago area. Kids that are a part of Cabrini Connections receive their own mentors to help them with homework and other activities. We have dropped off basketballs, softball equipment, soccer balls, baseballs and bats, and much more! Jane Addams Hull House Association - http://www.hullhouse.org/ Jane Addams Hull House Association is an organization that strives to improve the life of people in and around the Chicago community. They offer a variety of classes and activities for people of all ages. The Sports Shed had provided them with basketballs, footballs, volleyballs, and utility balls for the kids at Jane Addams Hull House Association. Girls in the Game - http://www.girlsinthegame.org/ Girls in the Game provides and promotes sports and fitness opportunities, nutrition and health education, and leadership development to enhance the overall health and well-being of all girls. The Sports Shed partners with them and has provided hundreds of sports equipment items which gives them the ability to expose hundreds of girls to a large variety of sports. America Scores - http://www.americascores.org We are making a difference in the lives of hundreds of kids who want to play soccer. On a regular basis, we provide cleats, shin guards, soccer jerseys and shorts to America Scores Chicago. They provide opportunities for kids on Chicago’s West side to play and learn the game of soccer. They serve kids who would not otherwise have the resources to do so! Johnson College Preparatory - http://www.noblenetwork.org/ The Sports Shed is now partnering with Johnson College Preparatory to provide their students with sports equipment for their athletic programs. Johnson College Prep is affiliated with Noble Street Charter School, an institution dedicated to providing a quality education to students in hopes to see them attend and graduate college. We have helped their competitive girls and boys basketball program get underway by providing them with dozens of brand new and used basketballs, along with several pairs of brand new girls high-top basketball shoes. We have provided them with several new footballs for their inaugural football season. We have also given their P.E. program a boost by providing them with floor hockey equipment, gym mats, step-ups, and several types of sports balls. Boys and Girls Club of Lake County - http://www.bgclc.com/ The Boys and Girls Club is committed to creating a cross-cultural and safe environment that promotes self esteem, teamwork, and responsible community commitment for young people. The Sports Shed has partnered with the Boys and Girls Club on numerous occasions. Just a few instances were donating footballs to the Bears Mini Camp and supplying 40 dresses to girls graduating from the “Smart Girls” program. The Hamdard Center - http://www.hamdardcenter.org/ The Sports Shed is helping The Hamdard Centers for Health and Human Services. We provided them with sports equipment for a camp for kids of families they serve in their program. The Center has a bare-bones budget and very few sports items, BUT NOW with the dozens of basketballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, baseballs, softballs, mitts and bats from The Sports Shed, they can offer several activities for all the kids who will be attending the camp. The Larkin Center - http://www.larkincenter.org/ The Sports Shed is providing sports equipment to the many homes that the Larkin Center serves. These kids now have a number of activities to keep them busy with the tennis balls and racquets, volleyballs, basketballs, footballs, bats, mitts and soccer balls we delivered to them. They were so excited to see all great stuff we brought! Love to Serve - http://www.lovetoserve.net/ The Sports Shed partners with Midtown Tennis Club and Love to Serve to provide tennis racquets to Chicago public school kids who would like an opportunity to learn tennis. We added 50 nice quality racquets to the collection of almost 200 that were presented at this event on Saturday, May 22, 2011 at Tuley Park on Chicago's South Side. Lydia Home - http://www.lydiahome.org/ LYDIA is a national, Christ-honoring organization whose mission is to strengthen families to care for children and care for children when families cannot. The Sports Shed has donated baseball equipment among other items to the LYDIA home. This gave the kids the opportunity to try out a new sport, they were thrilled to get the equipment! Mercy Home for Boys - http://www.mercyhome.org / Mercy Home saves young lives by providing a safe, nurturing home, opportunity for an excellent education and means for personal growth. They support healing for families and are committed to raising public awareness of youth in need. The Sports Shed partners with Mercy Home and gives kids the opportunity to get involved in sports. Muchin College Prep - http://www.muchincollegeprep.org/ The Sports Shed is proud to announce its support of Muchin College Prep in Chicago! We delivered an SUV full of sports equipment to this State St. expansion of the Noble Street College prep program. Muchin College Prep is trying to provide a viable athletic program to its students and we are giving them a chance to do that! The Noble Street College Prep program gives Chicago students access to a first-rate education and experiences that will prepare them for the future. OMNI Youth Services - http://www.omniyouth.org/ Omni Youth Services provides life-changing counseling and prevention services to youth and families in overlooked and under-served communities. They support learning through the development of skills these youth can use for a lifetime. The Sports Shed has provided sports equipment that enables them to participate in these group activities. Warm Blankets - http://www.warmblankets.org/ Warm Blankets Orphan Care is a non-profit Christian mission, dedicated to the rescue of orphans and widows through third world church planting and orphanage outreach. The Sports Shed gave Warm Blankets soccer balls and baseball mitts that they supplied to orphanages in Cambodia. Youth Outreach Services - http://www.yos.org/ The Sports Shed is now partnering with Youth Outreach Services in Chicago and their suburban locations. We have dropped off basketballs, soccer balls, baseballs and bats, mitts, volleyballs and a net set, and footballs along with dozens of other items!! Fellowship Housing - http://www.fhcmoms.org/ Fellowship Housing transforms the lives of homeless or at-risk single moms and their children by providing safe, affordable housing and mentoring to guide them from crisis to long-term stability. The Sports Shed has provided sports equipment to these children in need. This allows them to participate in the sports they love. Theodore Roosevelt High School - http://www.rhsroughriders.org/ Thomas Boettjer, Roosevelt High School's Football Coach, has been trying to field a Sophomore team in order to accommodate the number of kids who would like the chance to play. In order to help with this mission, The Sports Shed was able to contribute footballs, cleats and girdle pads, as well as assistance in getting their shoulder pads reconditioned. |
